New Year Lunch @ Kelab Golf Darul Ehsan

sweet sour prawns
Hi hi folks... Ending 2012 with my General prawns and starting new year with Corporal rank prawns, sob sob sob. Having my first new year's lunch with LL at Kelab Darul Ehsan's coffee house (Darul Ehsan Golf Club), after scouting for places like Ampang Look Out Point which only open from 5pm onwards to have our first new year lunch. Since our stomach were already growling, I suggested KDE Club.

We had sweet sour prawn dish which was too sweet with only a slight tinge of sourness. The gravy was too watery but the prawns were fresh, tasty, soft and crunchy. For veggies, we have Kailan in oyster sauce which was a bit salty and hence we omit the gravy.

Assam pedas tenggiri
LL simply love  tenggiri (mackerel) fish and she ordered assam pedas tenggiri. The tenggiri piece were not in one piece but broken into smaller pieces, may be due to stirring furiously. I am not a fan of assam pedas since it is naturally too spicy for me. Hence, I just 'fish' out pieces of the fish and the accompanying veggies sans the sour and spicy stew. As usual, my all time favourite is the simple stir fry bean sprouts with salted fish. However, on this instant, the bean sprouts were over cooked and loses its crunchiness. The sprouts fell flat and limpy in the plate.
over cooked bean sprouts!
I am happy to note that LL enjoyed and savouring each bite of the dishes especially the tenggiri asam pedas. Many stories were exchange during our lunch record breaking time of nearly 3 hours! It was a good start of 2013. However, scale must be given to the dishes.Besides the broken pieces of the tenggiri fish, the assam pedas is definitely the star dish of the day, and the bean sprouts fell well below to 3 on Acepaizah's scale. The serving plates again fell below to 3 on Acepaizah's scale since all the dishes were served in different and mixed pattern of serving plates, though all were of reputable table ware. In fact the Kailan dish was served in Tai Thong Chinese Restaurant's serving plate (which was next to the Duyong Coffee house) that was recently closed! Will I visit KDE again, definitely yes, because the ambience is great and the staff are polite, it is not crowded and its cooling while playing Russian roulette with the dishes!
