Farewell Sri Kinabalu Condo, Wangsa Maju Kuala Lumpur

dawn breaking - Petronas Twin Tower n KL Tower

dishes of all sorts
Browsing through my digitalised photos I came across this tasty picture. It was taken nearly a year ago, on our first day of Ramadhan breaking fast feast. It was meant to be the last time, since I am moving to another place after staying at my resort like condominium for nearly 13 years. My youngest nephew MS spent his crawling and growing years here where we have to be mindful of the spiral staircase, balcony and also all the windows since none was fix with a grill.

MS growing from about 1 year old to???
I felt some kind of mellow and sad, more so as the 'D' day is fast approaching. Most of my stuff were nicely packed and with each packing I am drawn to the fact that I am leaving behind a place with so much memories, not withstanding the fact that I did not grew up here. But this is my first property and a place which I called home for nearly 13 good years. Time stood still every time I reached home in the evening and I took every opportunity to digitalised my last few days here. Each drop of rain fall arose my awareness of peaceful ambiance, each last ray of daylight I rushed for that elusive photo shoot to remind me of the beautiful and peaceful place I 'once' owned. Oh my, oh my, I am getting mellow here.

And this may be my last posting from my resort like abode. Or I will rush another another posting before my final departure. Good day for now...

Tea Time with NN's Bread Pudding

NN's beautifully baked bread pudding
Homemade dishes are always the best. I am lucky to be surrounded by chef and sous chef. My three nieces took after their mother and know their way around the kitchen very well. My niece NN love to get her hands busy with western sweet desserts, while FA is famously known for her cake starting with the humble sandwich cake, courtesy of my BFF's ‘secret  recipe’. On the other hand NR is good at cooking Malaysian local cuisine. NN have been experimenting with all sort of dessert, from the humble plain pudding to the unpronounceable Pavlova!
NN's master piece pavlova!!!
During my recent visit, she baked her mouth watering bread pudding, simple yet very tasty. Little brother MS helped with the breaking of  the newly bought Gardenia bread loaf.

MS' craftmanship
I think, she then, drizzled melted butter over the bread. Then mixed some eggs (i think), milk, sugar, cinnamon and some vanilla in a separate bowl then pour over the bread while pushing down lightly with spoon/fork until the bread is covered and soaked with the mixture. Sprinkle with lots of raisins.

mix them well

well mixed
baking....
Baked in preheated oven about 30-40 minutes or until the top springs back when lightly tapped. It may be served with sweet sauce of some sort like caramel or custard sauce. Serve warm or cold. However, for want of accompanying sauce ingredients, we ate it as soon as it was taken out of the oven with a piping hot mug of caffeinated drinks! A timeless recipe passed from generation to generation!

p/s: NN commented that her sweet sauce, was custard sauce... emmm... I cannot really differentiate custard from caramel...

Late Lunch @ Shani Cafe Shah Alam

mushroom fried rice
Now that the Malaysia 13th General Election is over and the winner do not take it all, I am famish, I mean real famish. I have been very busy checking and counting all flags, banners, buntings and bill boards of various parties properly knotted and standing tall. In the land of food aplenty and where we greet each other with "Hello, dah makan?" (Hello, have [you] eaten?) we can get reasonably good food at all hour of the day but if one is caught near starving on a sunday about 2-4pm in Shah Alam, the capital city of the state of Selangor and one is not in a mood to have fast food or "mamak" food [check out my earlier post], it will be quite an adventure searching for a decent meal. It's sort of a 'siesta' time for restaurant, ha ha.

with my famous Teh Tarik on the side!
At last, my BFF's son drove us to Shani Cafe @ Section 7 bordering to 'the' I-City. It is a proper restaurant setting with practically all dishes of the day sold out! However, they provide ala carte made to order dishes. Since we were near famish on the verge of collapsing, we practically ordered the same dishes, fried rice of various variant and side dishes. Our driver of the day, F ordered mushroom fried rice, his little brother had plain Chinese fried with no side dishes, my BFF, had yellow noodle with seafood and I am contented with seafood fried rice. According to F, the mushroom fried rice was delicious. As for my fried rice, it was too spicy notwithstanding I specifically requested non spicy. All the side dishes were too watery and their gravy encroached into the rice and makes it soggy. F's brother, little F enjoyed his fried rice and word has it that Chinese fried food is his favourite.

seafood yellow noodle
The Hailam fried noodle seafood looks enticing with lots of gravy and generous amount of seafood and accompanying veggies. Its the most presentable and BFF, who was not feeling well that Sunday, finished her plate. Overall the dishes were tasty and value for money, or is it because we were starving. In any event, my choice of beverage did not compliment well with my food. The fried rice were a tad too oily and drinking tea with milk/creamer, simply does not gel well. Wrong companion for the day. However, my other companions made a wise decision ordering drinks with citrus' components.
My seafood fried rice earns a respectable 6 on Acepaizah's scale for want/unwanted spiciness and the watery side dishes which makes the rice soggy. The fried rice was plain with nothing more than chili's paste and other fried condiments. I might as well ordered plain rice a side seafood dish! BFF's seafood noodle was delicious and tasty hence I am conferring it a 7 together with F's and little's F fried rice. Oh, one last observations... the food presentation were beautiful which makes one salivating upon its arrival, and definitely garnered 8.7 on Acepaizah's scale. Besides, we can also enjoy their crispy and crunchy state of being!
